Our method

How we teach

People think all jiu-jitsu is the same. Walk into three gyms and you’ll find out fast that it isn’t. Every academy teaches differently, whether they’ve ever said so out loud or not. Here’s ours, and it comes down to three things.

About Our Method Our Story Why Carlson Gracie Coaches Gear Seminars with Jose

The Carlson Gracie standard

It comes down to three things

Technique is taught slowly. Learning happens together.
01

Tradition

We’re Carlson Gracie, right down to the warm-up. We run the mats, we line up, and we show respect to each other and to the room. We’re not precious about it. You won’t get told off for the wrong colour gi. But that old-school respect is what turns a room full of strangers into a proper academy.

02

Strong foundations, taught in blocks

We don’t chase whatever’s trendy this year. We build deep foundations and teach in blocks, one idea at a time over a few weeks, so it actually lands. And we roll every single session. You can watch a hundred videos, but you get good by doing.

03

Culture that carries you

This is the part nobody can copy. Welcoming and competitive at the same time. The higher belts pull the newer ones up. Everybody has a hand in somebody else’s journey. It’s why people stay for years, and why the ones who move away still call this place home.

The head professor

“I keep the traditional jiu‑jitsu alive, and I’m open-minded enough to bring in the new things that make people better.”
